Many thanks to Erica Knox, who has done such a great job guiding our youth ministry program for the past year and a half, and to Collin Backus, who served so well as our interim religious education director this past semester! Our parish family is extremely grateful for the time and energy they put into these ministries! Erica has already begun her new position as the Executive Director of the Amarillo Agency for Women. Collin will be leaving Canyon at the end of July to begin his formation as a Cistercian monk at Our Lady of Dallas Abbey in Irving, Texas.
Later this week, Adrian Johnson, his wife Hattie, and their daughter Vienna will arrive in Canyon and Adrian will begin his ministry among us as the full-time coordinator of our religious education and youth ministry programs. Adrian has a bachelor's degree in theology from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. He is excited about this opportunity to pursue his vocation as a professional lay minister and we look forward to the many gifts he will bring to our parish community. Please extend a warm welcome to Adrian, Hattie, and Vienna!
Parishioners who are ages 60+ are invited to join us on Friday, July 21 at 1 p.m. in the parish hall for a potluck luncheon and bingo. Once again, we will offer prizes for bingo winners. If you are 75 or older, please bring a main dish. If you are under 75, please bring a side dish (vegetable, salad, or dessert).
For the past few weeks, we have been asking parishioners to volunteer to teach a few of next year's Sunday morning faith formation classes at various grade levels. Many thanks to those who have come forward! BUT, we are still in need of teachers for the following grades: Pre-K (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd), kindergarten, 3rd grade, 6th grade, and high school. Please contact Adrian Johnson at the parish office this week if you can help us with this important ministry. Thank you for your willingness to pass on our Catholic faith to our young parishioners!
Join us on Friday, June 30, at 6:30 p.m. for the first of our summer family movie nights. This month's films is "The Trouble With Angels," a comedy about two prank-loving girls who are new students at St. Francis Academy, a boarding school run by nuns. This 1966 movie is based on the novel "Life With Mother Superior" and stars Rosalind Russell and Hayley Mills. The running time for the film is 112 minutes, so it should be over by 8:30 p.m. Popcorn and drinks will be served. Parishioners of all ages are invited to join us!
If you would like to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, please plan to attend the training session on Saturday, June 24 at 10 a.m. in the church.
We will gather at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the parish hall to carpool to Extreme Laser Tag in Amarillo (2503 SW 45th St.). If you are driving and wish to meet us there, please be there at 6:30 p.m. Sub sandwiches and drinks will be provided. See you there!
It's almost here! The program for students in grades 6-12 begins next Sunday, June 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall. Students in grades 1-5 begin their program next Monday, June 26 at 9 a.m. in the parish hall. It's still not too late to register, but please do so by no later than this Wednesday, June 21. Registration forms are available on the glass table in the narthex or from Collin Backus (our parish DRE).
Since Fr. Busch will be driving back from Albuquerque on Saturday and will not arrive in Canyon until shortly before the evening Mass, there will be no opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance on Saturday afternoon. Thank you for your understanding.
The second training session for parishioners entering grades 4 through 12 who are interested n becoming altar servers will be on Friday, July 7 at 2 p.m. If you did not attend the first training session a couple of weeks ago, you may still participate in the July training session. Current altar servers are also invited to attend as a "refresher course" (particularly if you are still not quite sure how to use the processional candles).
There will be a parish council meeting this Thursday (June 15) at 7 p.m. in Meeting Room C. This will be the last meeting for all outgoing members and the first meeting for all newly elected members.
We will gather for Mass this Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the church, followed by pizza in the parish hall. After we eat, we'll divide into teams for an exciting game of Catholic Jeopardy! What is "lots of fun?" See you there!
The Catholic Charities Bags of Hope project was once again a great success! St. Ann's parishioners donated more than $5.000 worth of food. Special thanks to the Knights of Columbus for coordinating the project and delivering the donations, the youth of our parish for sorting the items, and to everyone who filled a bag with food items. If you still have not returned your bag, please drop it by the parish office as soon as possible!
Our parish's lost and found bin (which is located under the pew next to Room A - the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Atrium - and across from the parish offices) is overflowing with all sorts of unclaimed items. Please stop by to see if any of these items belong to you. All items that are not reunited with their rightful owner by the end of June will be donated to Catholic Charities, the Downtown Women's Center, Another Chance House, or another charitable organization. Thanks for your help!
We will not have Mass this Wednesday. We will gather for a "make your own sandwich" deli tray meal with chips, cookies, and watermelon in the parish hall at 6:30 p.m., followed by an evening of fun with whipped cream Twister and kickball. See you there!
