The feast day of our parish's namesake, St. Ann, is usually celebrated on July 26. This year, her feast day is trumped by the fact that it falls on a Sunday and therefore belongs to the Risen Lord. After consultation with parish leadership, we decided it was be imprudent this year to have our annual parish picnic. However, we will have a few goodies for each household to take home after Masses this weekend to celebrate St. Ann for her intercession for our parish and its people. For those unable to come to Mass, you can drive by and pick up your goodies on Sunday morning from 10:15-11:15 at the main entrance of the church. St. Ann, mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus, pray for us!
A team of parish staff and catechists will be gathering this Tuesday evening to discuss plans for Christian Formation for children, teens and adults, including RCIA and youth ministry. Our diocese has already sent out a notice that classes are not to begin before October due to the COVID situation. Hopefully, we will come up with several options that will help us all grow in faith while staying safe. Stay tuned for more details.
Tough times can bring out the best in us. The next two weekends' Masses will have us hear from recent converts and full communicants with the Catholic Church. Their witness and stories can serve to remind us to deepen our own relationship with Christ and His Church as well as be more diligent about inviting others to find their spiritual joy among us by coming to learn more in the Inquiry stage of the RCIA process beginning soon at St. Ann's. More RCIA information can be found in the bulletin the next few weeks. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming Catholic, please contact Adrian Johnson to learn more about the Catholic Church and becoming Catholic!
St. Ann's parishioners are asked to help Catholic Charities by placing donated cans in the food barrel located in the chapel. Each month a different theme will be chosen to help with the food pantry at Catholic Charities. This month is cans of chunky soup.
Catholic Charities continues to offer free groceries for those who have been furloughed or laid off during the pandemic. This will be a curbside service at Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle, 2801 Duniven Circle, Amarillo, TX 79109 (one block west of the Home Depot on Georgia St.). Grocery giveaways will be on Mondays from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m., and Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Please bring a state issued photo I.D.
Thank you, Lux Christi Missionaries, for your time spent in forming our High School Discipleship Groups over the past month! Also, a BIG thanks to the Shehan and Backus families for hosting the missionaries! Thanks go to the many parishioners who provided donations and meals for the team during their stay. All of this has helped to provide a great opportunity for the High School youth to continue to learn, grow, and serve as disciples!
